Martek Welcomes Richard Childress as Director of Government Programs
BETHESDA, MD, October 5, 2011—Martek Global Services, a leader in strategic and
tactical facilities and acquisition support solutions, announced the appointment
of Richard Childress as Director of Government Programs. Mr. Childress will oversee
government programs and will provide Martek with direct support on all acquisition-related
endeavors. An acquisition subject matter expert, Mr. Childress brings more than
40 years of experience as an engineer, program manager, portfolio manager, analyst
and executive.

Mr. Childress is a DOD trained leader with unique experience working with many Federal
and State Government Agencies. He was one of the charter members of the Army and
DOD Acquisition Corps, and helped to develop many of its policies, procedures and
regulations, receiving numerous awards and frequent recognition for his support
in developing and defining these areas.
Prior to joining Martek, Mr. Childress oversaw the development and certification
of Earned Value Management Systems at two major corporations. He was also involved
in helping Government Agencies reorganize and reengineer their business processes,
procedures, organization and reporting systems. Before retiring, Mr. Childress spent
32 years in Federal service, working his way up to become Chief of Staff and Chief
Acquisition Officer for the Contracts and Projects Office for rebuilding Iraq, and
overseeing a budget of $18.5 billion (congressional approved funds) and $19 billion
Iraqi Oil Revenues.
Mr. Childress has a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from University
of Arkansas, has completed graduate level work at Virginia Poly Technical in Computer
Science and Business, and has completed the Defense Acquisition University Programs
for Program Managers and Senior Program Managers. Mr. Childress has spoken in many
forums, including testifying before Congress, and has taught courses on Acquisition
nationally and internationally.
